Saturday Snapshot: Three More of NYC

Here are a couple more pictures from NYC.

In this one Jack has climbed a big rock hill in Central Park. (Shortly after this picture, his sister tried to join him, but tumbled down instead!).

IMG_1884Notice he’s eating that most New York of treats: the soft pretzel from a lunch cart!

Next the kids watched others ice skating on the pond on Central Park West:

IMG_1888Mean Mom and Dad would not rent them skates or skate with them (mainly because none of us have ice skated and it was quite crowded!).

Then the next morning I ran down to NBC Studios as I’ve always wanted to be on the Today Show in the background. Alas – the weekend hours were different and they were already gone:

IMG_1883I pictured a cute pic of me and Al Roper standing around chatting about the weather – but unfortunately, you get a dark stage set with drizzle. Maybe next year!!

Saturday Snapshot: Metropolitan Museum of Art Favorites

The weekend after Christmas we headed down to NJ to visit relatives. We love to stop in NYC on the way. This time, for the first time, we brought the children to one of my favorite places: the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Here are some of our favorite things we saw:

IMG_1860Anne loves Ancient Egypt!

IMG_1862Jack loves arms and armor!

IMG_1874This came out a bit blurry, but I loved the big tree they had with all the angels and the kreche set.

IMG_1866And while we were enjoying the period rooms, we decided that it is a very good thing that my husband did NOT live in the 1600’s!

Saturday Snapshot: Getting Ready for Xmas!

I haven’t posted in a while because I had a really busy fall, what with school, work, and being in a local production of Les Miserables.
Here are some shots from our house, where we are preparing for Christmas:

IMG_1737

Our tree is a balsam this year. As you see, our angel does not want to stay put!

IMG_1738

The children have their own tree for their ornaments. It’s artificial and goes in the family room, where they play.

IMG_1739

The stockings are already hung by the chimney with care!IMG_1740And the Xmas train is in the front yard!

Happy Holidays to those celebrating!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday Snapshot: Mount Rushmore in Lego

The US government shutdown is continuing (as of this writing – 10/16) and people are bemoaning the closing of many of the national parks (really quite a tragedy — I realize they don’t have the funding to run them, but it’s keeping people from experiencing our great country!). While I believe Mount Rushmore is now open, at one point I read that it was not only closed, but access roads not in the park to where you could view it were also closed.

So – for your viewing pleasure – and complements of LegoLand- I give you Mount Rushmore —

Saturday Snapshot: Peak Color!

The leaves are peaking around here now, and it is so beautiful!!

Here’s the private drive to our house and the most beautiful tree:

Saturday Snapshot: More Fall Color!

The leaves are turning – here in New England! We are certainly not at peak yet (the news said it was peaking in Maine; we still need time for the color to move south), but it is changing! Here are some pictures from my sideyard (click on them for best results!):

FALL101c

I think I like the yellows best! We have all sorts of trees around us – we basically live in the woods. They were all here when we built the house (which is in what was a meadow). The birch trees are so pretty in the fall! Our neighbor has the most lovely red maple trees that turn a gorgeous color, too.

I’ll keep posting as the weeks pass.

Saturday Snapshot: Summer Fun at the Fair!

If you know me personally, you know I work on the local agricultural fair’s planning committee. I am in charge of booking all the music and stage entertainment. The fair was the weekend before we left for Hawaii, so I haven’t even looked at my pictures until now! Of course, I spend most of my time in the music tent, so I didn’t take too many pics, but here are a few:

IMG_1184

Here are flowers my daughter and I grew in the yard and entered in the “small container” division.

IMG_1204

This is the outside of my entertainment tent. As you can see, we had a beautiful day and over 20,000 fairgoers over the weekend!

IMG_1193

Miss Piggy, a former carousel animal, is our fair mascot. This was Miss Piggy’s float for the July 4 parade this year. She’s a survivor! Though horribly burned in a freak fire we had in our office, Miss Piggy was restored by an antique restorer and carries on!

Midway at night – always magical!!

IMG_1205

My favorite little corn cob! ๐Ÿ™‚

There were lots of amazing animals and displays, including artisans such as blacksmiths and farriers, horse and oxen pulls, a demo derby, and even monster trucks, but I mostly was in my tent listening to musicians.
