About Me (and review policy)

Hi – I’m Beth. The “dr” is for PhD (not MD) and I live outside of Boston. I have a super husband and two teen children and I started this blog in 2009 because I love to read and to share my thoughts on books. I also love hearing about other’s opinions on books and what they are reading, too. I post my personal reviews of what I’m reading so that friends and family can see them. I link them to facebook and twitter. I keep them short as most folks aren’t looking for a lengthy and involved read. I’m happy to have the world at large read them as well – all opinions are my own!

I am also happy to review a book sent to me by a publisher/publicist (but please ask first!). If I get it, I will make every attempt to review it in a timely manner. If I don’t like a book, I don’t finish it, and thus I don’t review it. I generally contact the publicist personally to tell them why I didn’t finish it. If I request it from the publisher (e.g. Net Galley), then I will review it or try to contact the publisher as to why I did not.  I prefer Kindle/Mobi or paper copies as I never read books on my laptop. I really enjoy Audiobooks, too (every day on my hour commute!). My favorite genres are fiction, historical fiction, mystery, psychological thriller, cozies, YA, and Children’s. I also read Romance, Christian/Catholic, cookbooks, and non-fiction. I rarely read violent/graphic content, paranormal, erotica, fantasy, or anything that could give me nightmares! As of Summer, 2014, I no longer knowingly review books that are self-published and/or self-edited.  Just a note — I am an  Indie Bound Affiliate, which means that if you click on a book through my site and purchase it, I receive a small percentage.

When I’m not reading, I enjoy travelling, exercising, cooking, playing with my kids, performing in community theater, and anything that has to do with Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Lucy Maud Montgomery. I’ve spent my professional life (25+ years) in the field of education and love discovering books for our PK-8 school library.

You can contact me at BethsBookNookBlog@yahoo.com. I try to answer all my email, even if just to say “no thank you”, but please know that this may not occur during the school year, especially if your email is unsolicited, due to my full time job in a school.

Happy Reading! 🙂

  1. Beth, I discovered your blog through the Rozlyn Press website. Nice to see another WordPress blog out there, it seems like there are so few of us. It looks like you have a lot of great reviews. I also read a lot of historical fiction and mysteries, like Anne Perry and C.S. Harris. Hope you’ll check out my blog at http://thebookstop.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi Beth. I have wanted to ‘like’ some of your posts, directly from WordPress, but the connection does not work. Please check as you may be missing getting likes!
I had to Google your site and then I arrived.
    Loved the pink peony.
    Thanks for all your encouragement!

  3. It happened if I got a like from you and the gravatar was a profile one of you, soft-focus with what looked like a floral garland on your head. If I clicked on that to all up your site, it said it was unavailable, or something like that. When I looked at the address, it was worldpress and so that was why I couldn’t get onto your site. You seem to have a new gravatar now….

    • this is all so weird — I haven’t changed my avatar in several years (maybe three or four) and I haven’t changed anything on my site in terms of address, etc. since I started it in 2009. (I definitely am not a garland on my head type – lol!)

      • Beth’s Book-Nook Blog is empty if I click on it.
The Beth whose site was not able to be directly accessed by me via WordPress has since changed her heading to Smiling to life. Worldpress-yes, Worldpress…
        So different Beths, I think!

Let me know what you think!
