Nothing says summer like a suspenseful read you can’t put down! This was a great read and I kept thinking how it’d make a super engaging limited series on Netflix. It felt a bit like a Harlan Coben mystery. It kept me up for two nights until I finished it. I did like the ending as well!

I somehow overlooked this title in my Net Galley list, but I’m SO glad I discovered it! I loved this story of a group of women who, over many years, are connected by their love and dedication to a garden on an English estate. Such a lovely story and such memorable characters! I love Julia Kelly’s writing; this story reminded me of another beloved author: Kate Morton. If you enjoy this type of historical fiction, don’t miss it!

HTP Blog Tour for BEYOND SUMMERLAND by Jenny Lecoat

I’m taking part today in the blog tour for Beyond Summerland, an engaging and somewhat intense read of post-WWII. Jean’s father has been arrested for owning (and using) a radio during German occupation in the Channel Islands, and she is trying to keep her and her mother’s life together while they search for where he might be. This is complicated by secrets that more than one person are trying to keep. This is a memorable read and beautifully written. Lecoat’s writing is wonderfully evocative of time and place. I had read her first novel The Girl from the Channel Islands in 2021.

I love this series of cozy mysteries featuring Lady Eleanor. If you enjoy Rhys Bowen’s Royal Spyness series, or Fliss Chester’s historical mysteries, you would most probably enjoy this series as well! If you read me, you know I love the Julia Bird mystery series! Julia is middle-aged and always seems to be bumping into mysteries, but she isn’t annoying (like Jessica Fletcher) or as elderly as Miss Marple. And I love that she has her black lab in tow for her adventures.

This one focuses on her ex-husband’s wedding and a death that happens as part of the events. I did find the pacing of it a bit slower than in the former books, with more dialogue and less description and actions — but that could just be me. I didn’t do an analysis or anything, it was just my feeling as I read it. It was well-plotted and once again, I enjoyed reading about the characters of Julia’s small village!
